Common Prayer

There was talk of angels singing
Stars aligned to point the way
Kings and sages gifts were bringing
Abiding peace to come and stay

A stable, starlight, pilgrims weary
A girl into a woman grown
Laboring 'neath winter's constellations
What child is this of flesh and bone

Bless our lives with life abundant
Let planets hush as birth unfolds
Heaven and earth are joined this moment
Love embodied, peace untold

Fill our hearts with living scripture
Let our voices speak, our truths be told
Only in the giving does grace stay with us
Only in our loving does peace unfold

There's truth that only longing fashions
Seeds within that time must grow
From our sorrows, cares and passions
A common prayer we deeply know
