Once there was a dragonfly, the breezy meadow
By the brook a willow tree, and you a passerby
And it was on earth your time to breathe in the sweet air
You were one with cloud and bear and cave
Once there was a deeper blue, open for the night sky
In the field a wilder bloom and the morning dew
Once there was a turning point, there was still a choice
Once there was abundance, once were lives
Once you walked a winding trail high into the mountains
Where the pines are soft and green, once a spider’s web
Once there was a waterhole, the great savanna
And your tracks were stories laid upon the muddy land
And a child came out at dawn and painted in the sand
All the colors of the world were one
The morning was a golden bird, dazzling in the sunlight
And the lizard, cool and shy, would hide into the dusk
Once there was a turning point, there was still a choice
Once there was abundance, once were lives
Once there was a bee at work, blooms in light and shadow
Down a deep ravine, the stone was lush with trailing vines
Once there was a dragonfly, and you a passerby
