Once I knew a kinder land, soothing as the dawn
In the reaches of my mind, joyous but forgone

Land of hills and meadows, houses of open doors
Strangers meet, a nice hello, “Come in, a drink to share”

Flowers wink along the road, bird and bumble bee
And a friendly river flows to the shining sea

No one has to leave this land to hustle or to fight
It is easy to shake hands when the mood is light

Ah, sometimes I find them, the friends gathered at night
In my dreams, years gone by, shadows come alive
