Dear Senator Collins,
I saw comments about Kristi Noem in thehill.com today.
Asked if she thought Noem should leave, Collins told reporters, “She is the president’s choice; she’s confirmed; she’s there.”
Yours was one of the critical votes that put someone so unqualified into that leadership role. It's no surprise that the president picks people terribly unqualified for any major position for his administration. They owe everything to him; they would never have been eligible for such a position on their merits. Time and again you have bowed to "the president's choice" even at the peril of consolidating an administration whose only loyalty seems to be to the boss, not the constitution or the American people.
What ICE and CPB have been doing under Noem's "leadership" is wrong point blank. The administration has worked feverishly to come up with new legal theories that would make it "lawful", but it is so obviously wrong, cruel, sadistic and unlawful in any true meaning of the word.
While I appreciate the many benefits you have sought for Maine people and appreciate that we are the ones who you answer to, I am appalled that you again and again will not confront the larger problems that are truly threatening our democracy, freedoms and future.
You have had a say in affirming the president's "choices" and you bear tremendous responsibility for that. Do the right thing and insist that Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller resign and leave the administration.
