The president claims that the SAVE act will create free and secure elections.
Let's consider his devotion to fair elections to this point: Long before each of the 2016, 2020, and 2024 elections he said again and again that the only way he could lose an election is if it was rigged. When he lost in 2020, he tried to prove fraud in dozens of cases brought to the courts, all of which he lost. He called multiple election officials and pressured them to refuse to certify elections. He called Georgia's Secretary of State, a Republican, and pressured him to "find" 11,000+ votes so that he would win the election, threatening him in a variety of ways. He had loyalists and aids flood the media with claims of election fraud - without any evidence - to create uncertainty about elections' fairness - say a lie enough times and it at least creates doubt about what's true. He urged his followers to pressure Congress not to certify the election and, of course, encouraged the January 6th storming of the Capitol and stood back as his supporters assaulted police, threatened lawmakers and desecrated the Capitol building itself. And, finally, after a period of time, he sought to change the narrative - they were peaceful, patriotic protesters and then he pardoned them all.
The President's insistence on passage of the SAVE Act and his threats against lawmakers who vote against it should ring every alarm bell you have. This is not a man who supports free, fair and secure elections but only his victories. Don't bow to pressure. Call out this man's relentless pursuit of self interest and lies. The SAVE Act does nothing to secure elections. Trump wants it because it legitimizes his lies about our elections, it will make it harder for many eligible voters to cast their ballots, and it furthers an agenda of mistrust and surveillance.
