Shadow

I met with my shadow, alone in the rain
Walked up to my shadow, cold as pain
My shadow said, “One time, that’s all, never again”

The river is muddy, the water is high
The river is heavy with rain from the sky
No turning around in that current, hard as I try

I say it out loud, “Just one more chance”
I twist and I turn, it’s one crazy dance
The blues hangs around, I run into it all day long
But when is the time for one more chance

I traveled the globe to see old friends
I stayed at their houses, pitched my tent
When I came to the desert my shadow said, “Go and repent”

And one moon is empty, and one moon is full
A shepherd is sleeping, the dogs yip and howl
And I take to my heels with the sheep, shadow and all
